Bovington Amenities

The Mace shop caters for everyone young and old living within Bovington. There is a varied range of food, magazines alcoholic drinks and video hire also a cash point machine and post office are located at the rear of the shop, opening times of the Mace are Monday - Saturday 0700-22-00 and Sunday 0800-22.00.

The Mace Shop is located on King George V Road and is open 7 days a week for basic food shopping. There is an in store bakery, hot & Cold food takeaway. Lottery, DVD and a small selection of hardware consulables are available from the Mace

Cloudshill pub

Clouds Hill Pub is situated on the corner of Elles Road and George V Road. This recently built establishment is tastfully decorated with Lawrence of Arabia memerobila. There are two cash point machines at present in Bovington. One is on King George V Road at the front of the HIVE building.
The other is located in the SPAR by the Post Office counter at the rear and operates within opening hours of the shop.
Cash back is available from the SPAR tills. A maximum of £5 must be spent to qualify for cash back.

Community Worker

There are two contact houses available for military personnel their dependants and relatives in Bovington Garrison.
One is situated in Bovington on New Road (3 B/Room) and one in Lulworth.
Both houses are are fully furnished ready to use with all mod cons including: Washing Machine, Fridge, Freezer, TV, Cooker, Microwave Oven,Toaster, Kettle, Mini Hi Fi, Linen, Towels,Crockery,Cutlery, etc.Hire charges are £25 per night.
For booking contact the Unit Welfare Office on 01929 403317 or Mr Parsons on 01929 403595. Bookings cannot be taken more than one month in advance of the requirement and for a maximum of one week.
Please note this welfare facility is available only to members of the armed forces for welfare purposes and can be booked by a serving member of the armed forces only.

The Thrift Shop is a popular facility in Bovington.Items of clothing,toys,babywear,books,household items etc can be sold and bought.Only 8 items at a time are taken in with a cost of 10p going to charity.The Thrift shop is for everyone's use and volunteers are always appreciated.Opening times are Wednesday 1000-1200 and Thursday 1015-1500 The Thrift Shop is open during term times(closed during school holidays and half-terms)The Thrift Shop is located on King George V Road by the Spar with plenty of car parking at the rear.Contact Valentine Simson on (01929)403496. Waste Collection

Refuse collection is on Friday Mornings. Bins are emptied on a fortnightly basis.The green recycling boxes are emptied on alternative Fridays. Bin bags placed at the side of wheelie bins will not be collected. An exception is made over the christmas period when one bag may left beside the whellie bin.

There are Bottle Banks and other recycling Containers on Swinton Avenue(Off King George V Road) FREE of Charge.A waste site on the Industrial Estate is for larger items of bulk rubbish and can be found in Wareham behind the Train Station along the Bere Road.
The site is open 6 days a week from 0900 � 1700. Removal of white goods (i.e.: fridges etc) can be arranged through the council.

Rail

 

The nearest railway station is Wool (2 miles) on the main line between London Waterloo and Weymouth. The Waterloo-Weymouth service is operated by South West Trains [www.southwesttrains.co.uk]. Trains in each direction call at Wool at hourly intervals throughout the day and at similar intervals in the evening, seven days a week.

 

All London-bound trains call at Poole, Bournemouth, Southampton Central and Southampton Airport Parkway. Southampton Central is the main interchange point for a number of other rail services, namely:

  • Portsmouth-Southampton-Salisbury-Bristol-Cardiff services operated by First Great Western [www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk]
  • Bournemouth-Southampton-Reading-Birmingham-Manchester services operated by CrossCountry [www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk]
  • Southampton-Chichester-Brighton and Southampton-Chichester-Gatwick-London (Victoria) services operated by Southern [www.southernrailway.com]
  • Local services to Romsey, Eastleigh, Fareham and Portsmouth.

 

All Weymouth-bound trains call at Dorchester South. From here, there is a well-signposted 10-minute walk to Dorchester West for train services to Yeovil, Westbury and Bristol operated by First Great Western [www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk]

The nearest Megabus pick-up point is The Triangle, Bournemouth (20 miles). Alternatively, you can catch Megabus at Talbot Campus, Bournemouth University. Megabus offers fares to London, the Midlands and the North for as little as £1 (+50p booking fee). Book online at www.megabus.com

 

The nearest National Express pick-up point is North Street, Wareham (7 miles). Coaches operating via Wareham are:

  • 035, Swanage-Wareham-London, one journey each way daily.
  • 315 (Winter)/316 (Summer), Eastbourne-Southampton-Wareham-Exeter-Helston, one journey each way daily.
  • 333, Bournemouth-Wareham-Bristol-Blackpool, one journey each way daily.

Note: Services 315/316 and 333 run via Wool; the driver may agree to set down in Wool on your return journey.

 

A wider selection of National Express coaches operate from Poole bus station (10 mins walk from railway station) and Bournemouth Interchange (just outside the railway station). Services run to central London, Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham and other destinations.

The main inter-urban bus services in the Bovington area call at the railway station bus stop at Wool (2 miles) or the Drax Arms in Bere Regis (5 miles). These services are:

  • X53 Jurassic Coast Express (Poole-Wareham-Wool-Weymouth-Lyme Regis-Exeter), about every 2 hours Mon-Sat daytime. In Summer months, the X53 also runs about every 3 hours on Sundays. This service is operated by First Hampshire and Dorset [www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/southwest/dorset].
  • 387 (Poole-Bere Regis-Dorchester), about every 2 hours, Mon-Sat daytime, operated by Damory Coaches [www.damorycoaches.co.uk].
